Questions to Ask Your Interviewer

Prepare to ask between three and five questions of your interviewer(s). These questions should be about aspects of the job or company that you could not otherwise have researched on your own (e.g., internal organizational dynamics, workplace dynamics such as staffing, supervisory roles, collaborative vs. independent work, etc.) Try to weave your questions into the flow of a normal conversation. Don’t save all your questions for the end as you might not have enough time to ask them. Never ask a question just for the sake of asking.

Whenever possible, your questions should be tailored to each specific interviewer. Find out about his/her career path and what drew her/him to the organization. This is also your opportunity to get information about the company that you would not otherwise have access to (i.e., a human perspective).

One question that is a good idea to ask at the end of any interview concerns the organization’s timetable for filling the job and the next steps in the process.
